Wednesday I woke up at a disappointing 8 a.m. for my 9:30 a.m. check out time at St. Olaf. It's strange to imagine that an entire year has passed and I have not only moved into my freshman year dorm, but I have also moved out of my freshman year dorm. Some thoughts on the end of the year? Pretty disappointing. My finals went surprising well considering how I felt about my classes going into finals week. The end really disappointed me because that's all it did: ended. There wasn't really a celebration, a unanimous moment of joy. The academic year just snuck out the door like a dog with his tail tucked between his legs. Maybe it's because of the college lifestyle, but once I finished my last exam I went on living my life the exact same way I did when I still had exams. I remember being done before most people, but then all of a sudden I was still up at school and everyone was gone.
In approximately two weeks I will embark on a summer long journey to Shelter Island, New York. I am staying with my friend Doug Binder who lived in the same dorm as me and also plays Ultimate Frisbee. Doug and I are pretty good friends so I don't think it'll be too weird or anything. Doug's pretty excited. From what I've been told, Doug's dad owns a pool design company and needs workers for maintenance and pool cleaning. That's where I come in. It's not a glamorous job by any means, but it'll be a nice change to live in New York. I'm not really sure what to expect since I've never been to New York or traveled on my own really. I've flown to Texas on my own but that's different since I was simply traveling to family. I've flown to Australia, but again I was traveling to family and I was also traveling with family. It'll be interesting to see how my thoughts change as the time comes near.
As for now I'm simply enjoying my remaining time in Northfield. I never realized how much there was to miss in a small town.
Best wishes,
Vinh
